Northstar and Sierra-at-Tahoe welcome college students in spring with discounted lift tickets. Spring skiing at the resorts runs well into April, and Northstar opens again in summer with a full activity package.

Northstar and Sierra celebrate three College Weeks in spring-weeks when college students can purchase discounted lift tickets. Daily lift tickets cost $59 at Northstar and $54 at Sierra with a valid college ID shown at the ticket windows. Spring College Weeks are scheduled March 22-26, March 29-April 2, and April 5-9.

Sierra's south of the border scene at the bottom of West Bowl goes into competitive action April 11 with the annual Salsa Showdown and taco-eating contest. The winner who makes the best salsa wins a season pass for 2010-11.

Sierra usually runs its lifts until the second or third week in April, before shutting down until the slopes are covered with snow again. Northstar runs its lifts through April 18 and then opens for summer operations in late May for golfing and mid-June with other activities.

Summer brings an onslaught of activities to Northstar: scenic gondola rides, hiking, lift-accessed mountain biking, geocaching, horseback riding, golf, tennis, and fly-fishing. The Village features a bungy trampoline, a ropes course, crafts, outdoor movie nights, and live music. Swimming pools and spas complete the sun scene, and Northstar's ice rink turns into a roller skating rink for summer.

Northstar also offers summer lodging packages. Usually the resort combines golf, mountain biking, or paddling on the lake packaged with accommodations in the Village at Northstar. The new Ritz Carlton Highlands, located at Northstar and open year round, offers spa, romance, and activity packages for summer.
