Grand Targhee spans the spectrum in entertainment. Its winter season ends with the annual derby racing cardboard boxes down the slope while its summer season brings on outdoor activities and its renowned music festivals.

The tenth annual Cardboard Box Derby launches the closing weekend festivities April 10 under Dreamcatcher Lift with dragons, cars, and UFOs constructed out of cardboard, paper, glue, tape, and string racing down the slope. "It's a fun, traditional event," spokesperson Shannon Hamby told OnTheSnow.com. Spectators can walk up the slope to watch the event.

The resort wraps up its winter season April 11, but those looking to score a discount on lift tickets can purchase the Daylight Savings Pass valid through the end of the season. The pass costs $199 for adults, $169 for young adults, and $99 for juniors and seniors, and Sunday half-day adult tickets are reduced to $29 through closing day.

Summer comes to the Tetons opening the season at Grand Targhee June 25 through Sept. 12 for mountain biking, hiking, and music. Hikers and sightseers heading up the lift can grab views of the Grand Teton and Jedediah Smith Wilderness. The resort is aiming to add a summer campground at the base area with 10-15 spots and launch new all-inclusive stay and play vacation packages.

Targhee's lift-accessed mountain biking features downhill trails while the Nordic center converts to cross-country biking trails in summer. A small bike skills park is also available. Preliminary dates have been scheduled for the Downhill MTB Race Series July 24, Aug. 7-8, and Sept. 11-12. Pierre's Hole MTB Race-an ultra race with 50-mile and 100-mile divisions-has been penciled Aug. 21 on the calendar.

An online signup for a drawing gives one Grand Prize winner lodging and festival tickets for the weekend and 99 winners the opportunity to purchase weekend festival tickets at a discount. A Battle of the Bands competition will launch the festival.
