A Room With A View
If it is spectacular views you seek, try the Hotel Bellevue (2070m) nestled at the foot of the Eiger North Face, which is one of the most hardcore climbs in the world.
Hotel Bellevue, Switzerland
The hotel dates back to 1840, but became famous in the 1930s when spectators and journalists gathered on the terraces of the Bellevue trying to catch glimpses of climbers attempting to conquer the mountain – so many lost their lives in the Eiger North Face that it became known as “Murder Wall”. The property features beautifully preserved rooms with an old-fashioned interior and boasts lots of famous guests. Supposedly the entire elite of mountaineering and even Clint Eastwood (the movie “The Eiger Sanction” was shot there) has stayed overnight. Double rooms start at CHF370 (€253).
