Picking and strumming, singing and celebrating. All of the fun is coming to the Gunnison Valley March 27 to celebrate the first annual Ski Town Breakdown at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. It plans to be a major spring bluegrass event, sponsored by the resort and Boulder-based natural and organic burrito makers EVOL Burritos. Yonder Mountain String Band provides the entertainment at the Warming House Hill at the base of CBMR.
The group is based in Nederland, Colo., and has toured the nation for the past 11 years, playing at festivals and concerts, including the 2008 Democratic National Convention at Denver's Pepsi Center.
"We wanted to bring back the classic celebration of spring in the mountains and what better way to do that than with the quintessential Colorado band - Yonder?" said CMBR's Daren Cole. "In future years we hope this event grows into a festival celebrating snow sports, springtime, and life."
Yonder Mountain String Band blends bluegrass and rock, to create their original sound. General admission tickets are $35 each and are available for purchase on the CBMR Web site. VIP Packages that include lodging and a special performance Friday evening at Utey's Cabin are also available on the site.
