New this year is the Breckenridge Ascent Series, presented by the ski resort and the Breckenridge Recreation Department. They are hosting three evening hillclimbs, all starting at the bottom of Peak 8 and finishing at Vista Haus. You can get up the mountain any way you would like, but you'll need skis or a snowboard to come back down. All events are held Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. The series starts on the Springmeier run March 24. It continues on the Claimjumper run March 31, and finishes on the Dukes run April 7.

Register at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, at Mountain Outfitters, or online through the recreation district. You can register through 10 a.m. on race day for $15. Race-day registration is on Peak 8 in the Smokehouse, in the basement of the Bergie beginning at 4:30 that afternoon. Late registration fee is $20. Or you can register for the entire series for $40.

Breckenridge claims everything is funnier at 9,600 feet in altitude. Comedian Dave Attell takes the stage March 18 at 8 p.m. Attell is from Comedy Central's hit show Insomniac, and he'll be live in concert at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $27. This show is for adults, and is recommended for those ages 18 and older.
