One of Aspen's major lodging properties is encouraging Coloradoans to volunteer. Those who do volunteer will be offered a lodging discount at The Gant in Aspen. It's part of the new "Pay It Forward Colorado" program.

The way it works is Coloradoans donate their time to the community organization or nonprofit of their choice, whether it is a school, church, or animal shelter. Many options are available. Download the Pay It Forward Colorado Participant form at the Gant's Web site and get it completed and signed, verifying the hours volunteered. Also bring proof of residency.

"Money is obviously a vital necessity for a service organization, but people shouldn't overlook how important a resource volunteers can be," said Erin Peck, director of sales at The Gant. "Volunteering is a hands-on way to actively serve the community you live in. We hope this program will remind Coloradoans that they can make a difference in someone's life, and you don't need a checkbook to do it."

Present your volunteer form and proof of residency when you check in to The Gant. Three hours of service earns a 20 percent discount, using promotion code PAYIT20. Six hours of service earns a 25 percent discount, using promotion code PAYIT25. Eight hours or more earns three nights for the price of two, or six nights for the price of four, using promotion code PAYITFREE. Free nights are applied at check-in. The program is good through December 2010.

The Gant recently completed a $7.2 million, four-year renovation.
