A hearty, September storm brought out the lift maintenance crew at the southern Colorado, extreme skiing and boarding resort. Parts of Silverton Mountain had plenty of snow for a run or two, despite a scheduled opening day of Dec. 1. Several early season storms already have hit Silverton. Another foot of snow fell this past weekend, with much of it accumulating above the 12,000 foot level. Silverton Mountain is the highest elevation ski area in North American with runs as high as 13,487 feet in altitude. Silverton is also an experts-only mountain.
