Searchmont, located in the Algoma Mountains just north of the Soo offers a 750-foot vertical drop, the largest in the eastern Great Lakes. It has 18 trails, many over a kilometer long, which - for those in the Lower 48 - is nearly two-thirds-of-a-mile.
It's one of the few Heartland areas where you will feel that delicious thigh burn after a few runs, which means long, exhilarating runs; no long run-outs here. It is solid skiing and riding from top to bottom, and there are glades in between some of the advanced runs.
