Top freeride skiers and riders will arrive at Sugar Bowl Resort March 13-14 for the annual Silver Belt Banzai. The one-of-a-kind race has evolved from its early days to the point where it now includes skicross and boardercross elements.

The race, which dates it inception back to the 1940s, starts at the top of Sugar Bowl's Silver Belt Gully on Mt. Lincoln. Heats of four and six racers duke the course out for speed and survivability as the course combines the tradition of a downhill race with skicross and boardercross demolition-derby threats. Spectators can catch the action off the Mt. Lincoln Express Chair.

Qualifying heats run March 13 with winners advancing to the final races March 14. The event finishes each afternoon with live music and a post-race party in the Judah Lodge on Sunday.

The resort expects up to 100 skiers and riders to vie for advancing beyond the Saturday competitions to compete for cash prizes. Competitors-men and women, skiers or riders--must be 16 years or older.

Entry fees cost $100 for racers who need lift ticket and $50 for those who do not need lift tickets. Lift tickets included with registration are valid for the first day of racing, and competitors advancing to Sunday's finals get a second lift ticket.
