At A Glance

Tignes is set to host the European edition of the Winter X Games March 10-12.

Just a few weeks after the Vancouver Olympic Games, the world's best riders will meet again in Tignes for eight competitions: ski and snowboard Super Pipe and snowboard Slopestyle.

Since 1995, the elite of the freestyle world hae flocked to the Winter X Games of Aspen, Colorado, which also attracts 54 million television viewers in 140 countries. Tignes has given itself three years to reach the size of its Aspen-based counterpart, starting this year with the SuperPipe that is an exact replica of the one in Aspen.

The SuperPipe measures 220 metres in length, 18 metres in width, and five to six metres in height. Competitors give their best to do the the highest, most technical tricks possible and will be judged on amplitude, difficulty, quality, and overall impression.

The SlopeStyle stretches over 600 metres with a 190 metre vertical drop. Eight snow modules and four rails dot the terrain, where competitors aim for speed, style, amplitude, and technique.

For the event, Tignes is offering free accommodation in a four-person studio with the purchase of four six-day lift passes. This stay is valid March 6-13 and costs €185 per person. Call +33 (0)479.400.303 to book.
