Rev up your engines for a biker rally at Durango Mountain Resort. These bikes are used on the snow, though. The annual Purgatory Skibike Rally is Feb. 26-28. Skibike manufacturers -  Lenzsport, Koski, Geary, and Brenter - will be on hand to let you try their equipment and answer questions. Riders must be certified. Classes and certification are available. The American SkiBike Association will be on hand, meeting at the Purgatory base area as well.

That same weekend is the Styx Enduro at Purgatory, from 9 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28. Two-person teams (men, women, or co-ed) will race to complete the most laps. They'll ride up Lift 1 (the Six Pack), then race down the Styx run. Both team members must finish each lap for it to count. A card will be punched after each lap. They will have a special pass to cut the line.

Durango's Beth Holland says, "The course will go from the top of Lift 1 above the Upper Hades race shack and over to the top of STYX. This will require some poling/skating so it will tire people out sooner. Both team members must check-in with the race official together before their card will be punched for the lap."

The cost is $50 per team. Race-day lift tickets for individual competitors are available for $25. Details and registration information are available on the Purgatory Web site.

The 12 annual Dave Spencer Ski Class Race Day is the same weekend at the mountain. Activities take place in the Paradise Race Arena and at the Columbine ski area (the beginner area of the mountain). This is a long-time community event for adaptive participants and able-bodied skiers. Five-member teams are organized, and pledges are raised. The day features on-mountain lunches, a fun ski race, après ski party, and crazy mountain competitions. Prizes go to best wipeout, best costume, and highest fundraising team and individual.

Discounted lift tickets and lodging packages are available. Dave Spencer, who lost a leg to cancer while in college in Wisconsin, started the Adaptive Sports Association 25 years ago. He died in 1986.
