A ski area, a massive hot springs pool, vapor caves, and river rafting are activities and attractions the town of Glenwood Springs has to offer. The community along I-70 in Colorado is celebrating its quasquicentennial anniversary, or its 125th birthday.
Guests are invited to celebrate too, with special rates and discounts on lodging, activities and dining throughout 2010. You do this by registering your birthday online. Examples of deals include coupons for free skiing at Sunlight Mountain Resort, a free Winter Fun Pass, or a Summer Day Pass to the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park on your birthday.
One of the big treats about skiing Sunlight just outside of Glenwood is the soak in the historic hot springs pools afterwards. The Ute Indians used to call the pools "Yampah," meaning Big Medicine. These massive pools eventually became the central attraction of Glenwood. Lodging properties offer deals on rooms, a lift ticket to Sunlight, and a Hot Springs Pool pass.
Another Glenwood attraction is the Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves, which are filled with steam from the hot springs. High above the Colorado River is a labyrinth of underground caves known locally as the Fairy Caves. You get there via gondola.
Glenwood is a hot spot for rafting and kayaking in the summer. The town sits at the junction of the Colorado and the Roaring Fork Rivers. The river flows through scenic Glenwood Canyon.
