Fernie Alpine Resort is prepping for Griz Days when the town of Fernie celebrates its legendary mascot in their annual winter festival. The Griz is hailed as the Fernie hero who brings snow from the sky with his musket.

Fernie's 33rd Annual Griz Days is scheduled this winter March 5-7. Events in town include a night parade, craft fair, pancake breakfast, races, street hockey, scavenger hunt, arm wrestling, and snowmobile drag races. Snow sculptures dot the town, and the bars pack out with celebrants.

Fernie Alpine Resort hosts several Griz events over the weekend along with the town's celebrations. Rock band and dummy downhill contests bring the craziness to the ski resort.

The Coca Cola Ultimate Rockies Rock Band takes place March 6. The party begins in the plaza with a DJ bringing on the tunes. Contests include best rocker hair and best rock star holler. The party continues in the Griz Bar with the rock band contest.

Fernie's Raging Elk Dummy Downhill Competition is scheduled for March 7. A crowd gathers to watch dummies on skis launched off a huge jump adjacent to Timber Chair. Anyone can enter a dummy to be judged on creativity, construction, and distance flown off the jump. Big, big carnage upon landing can win, too.
