Winter is in full swing on Minnesota's Iron Range. Residents have hunkered down to wait out the season in America's Ice Box, but for snowsports enthusiasts conditions are near perfect.
The Iron Range is a mother lode of craggy peaks, miles of endless forests, and deep snowfall. The region is home to Giants Ridge, the Gopher State's largest golf and ski resort. The 35-some trails that soar off the rocky crest offer some of the best cruising runs around the Great Lakes, and the Ridge's terrain park features more than 3,000 feet of free-riding fun. It's loaded with a half-pipe and a variety of rails and boxes.
The slopeside Lodge at Giants Ridge is offering some attractive lift and lodging specials that are good through the rest of the season.
The Ski & Stay Midweek Special, good Sunday through Thursday, is $125 per couple, per night. Four adults nightly in a spacious suite are $249. Lift tickets are included in each package.
The Spa & Stay Midweek Special, for those that just want to relax, is $250 per night, per couple, and includes two one-hour massages.
The Weekend Special offers a third night free. Stay Friday and Saturday nights and get a third night free. You also receive 25-percent off daily lift tickets. This offer is not available the weekends of Feb. 26-28 and March 5-7.
The Lodge provides luxurious rustic accommodations, with a knotty pine interior and lodge-pole pine supports for the high beamed lobby ceiling. All 68 of the hotel's condo units were renovated this past summer. Some feature whirlpools and fireplaces. It also houses a spa and fitness center with a large indoor pool. The lodge's restaurant, Timbers, offers classic specialties with a "north woods" influence.
