Appalachian Mountain in North Carolina is benefitting in spades from this season's weather pattern that recently dumped another 10 -14 inches of natural snow on the area. Appalachian got 18 inches in the mid-December storm and has been augmenting it with snowmaking ever since.

The resort should be in great shape for the next Shred for the Cup competition Saturday, Feb 20. The three event competition series is open to men and women skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels.

Shred for the Cup features slope side, big air, and rail jam competition for beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels. Events are limited to 150 participants. All participants receive lunch and a Shred T-Shirt.

Competitions at the beginner level should be able to hit smaller flat rails and boxes and smaller table tops. Intermediates should be able to do a variety of tricks on smaller rails and boxes and a variety of grabs and small rotations.

Advanced competitors should be comfortable doing a variety of tricks on all rails and boxes. They should be able to demonstrate spinning and grabbing on all size jumps including 180s, 360s, 540s, and 720s.

Prizes are awarded to individual event winners. Series winners get the "Cup." The series finale is Saturday, March 20.
