Welch Village, the popular southeastern Minnesota day-trip area located in the Cannon River valley near Red Wing, is promoting family togetherness on the slopes. Family Festival Days are coming up this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, March 13, and both have a party theme. This month's date celebrates Valentine's Day, and March fetes Mardi Gras.
Family Festuval Days includes an all-day lift ticket, ski or snowboard equipment, a one-hour lesson, and a coupon for a meal in the chalet. Children under 11 get a two-hour lesson as part of the Kid's Club and Snow Explorer's programs. The cost is $49 per family member and can be purchase online only. Follow the link below.
The Family Fare program, also $49 each, is available Tuesdays and Thursdays after 1 p.m. It includes lift ticket, rental equipment, and a one-hour lesson, which are offered at 1:30 and 6 p.m. Advance registration is required at least 48 hours ahead for children under 11.
Welch's front slopes are spread across two peaks with 35 named trails and slopes, eight chairlifts, and a surface tow. There's a good mix of difficulty levels with nice easy runs complemented by some of the region's best steep and headwalls. The new backside, opened last season, adds another 10 new runs for advanced skiers and riders and a new quad chair.
