Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in Pennsylvania's Poconos is making it very easy for New Yorkers to enjoy a day on the slopes. The resort is partnering with the New York Port Authority to provide daily bus service from the heart of Manhattan directly to the resort. The first bus departs from the Port Authority at 8:30 a.m.  

The $177 package includes round trip transportation, a lift ticket, rental equipment for skiing or snowboarding, a lesson for either activity, and two tubing passes. Helmets, jackets, and pants are available for an additional fee.

An overnight package also is an option. The Water Gap Country Club Weekend Package is priced at $185. It includes round trip transportation and local transportation, two adult lift tickets, and a full breakfast. Ski or snowboard rental equipment and lessons are available for an additional fee.  

Shawnee Mountain has 23 trails and slopes, two terrain parks, and a tubing park. The terrain is covered 100 per cent with snowmaking capabilities. Lift transportation includes a quad chair lift, triple chair lift, four doubles, and four magic carpets for beginners.   

Reservations are necessary for the New York lodging packages. Both require a two-person minimum. The booking agency, Destination Poconos, also can arrange trips via limo, touring car or helicopter.
