The New England Ski Museum at the foot of Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch State Park will benefit from two fundraising races coming up next month.
The Hannes Schneider Meister Cup March 6 at historic Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway, N.H., is unlike any ski race in history. It combines the best of skiing today with the warm nostalgia of yesterday. It honors Austrian Hannes Schneider, founding father of ski instruction, who brought his world-renowned skills to the area in 1939. Schneider introduced the fun and excitement of skiing to millions around the globe and, most certainly, in New England.
This race honors history, and helps to preserve it. Registration fee: five-person teams, $375; individuals, $75. Entry deadline 11:59 p.m. March 4.
The race, as noted, is March 6, but the event involves a whole weekend of festivities, and runs March 5-7.
The New England Ski Museum's Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon March 13 at Omni Mount Washington Resort presented by CNL Lifestyles Properties, is another major fundraiser for the non-profit Ski Museum. The event offers mass start, classic style races of 50k and 25k, and free Bill Koch League 3k. First race starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $50 by Feb 8, $60 by Feb. 22, and $70 by March 10, 2010. Limited to 300 skiers.
