Bryce Resort in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley caters to families, school programs, and activity-minded individuals who want to learn a snow sport. Group lessons for intermediates offered daily at 1 p.m. are a good value priced at $26.
The resort packs a variety of other programs into its compact learning terrain starting with SkiWEE for children ages 4.5 to 8. A half-day lesson and magic carpet lift package costs $48 or $68 with rentals. Indoor activities, a snack, and hot chocolate are included.
The Mini Rider snowboard program is designed for children 6 to 8 years old. The minimum age for snowboard instruction is slightly older than for ski lessons. Age levels are determined base on a child's muscle skill ability to master basic techniques for success. Mini rider lessons are the same price as SkiWEE but are only available weekends. The Little Nip and Mighty Might learning areas are within eye shot of parents so they can easily watch.
First-time packages for those 9 years old and older include equipment, a 75-minute group lesson, and access to the magic carpet lift. A lift ticket can be purchased after three hours on snow for an additional $10 weekdays and $17 weekends.
Bryce organizes a large volume of group learning programs with schools in the surrounding area. The resort also offers honor roll students at Shenandoah County schools a free lift ticket as an incentive to do well scholastically.
