The French resort of Sancy will be celebrating the 21st edition of the Festival Sancy Snow Jazz, Feb. 13-20.

For the event, more than 20 New Orleans-style jazz musicians and groups invade the bars, cafés, and brasseries of the surrounding town and stations, playing in places like Super Besse, Le Mont Dore, and La Bourboule.

While France boils over with jazz festivals throughout the year, this event is unique in that it gives centre stage to what the organisers call "real jazz, that which has held on the exalting characteristics of the music that was born with the 20th century and has remained strong today." In other words, a week in Sancy will feel more like an escapade in New Orleans.

Concerts begin in the afternoon and usually swing until late at night. In the intimate settings of the various establishments, the musicians and the audience are often closely packed. These concerts are also free, making the music accessible to a large number of fans, both jazz enthusiasts and just people who like good music and good fun.

The concerts are free (except the closing gala evening event), but it is recommended to make reservations by calling the Mont Dore tourism office at +33(0)473.652.021.
