Gunstock Mountain Resort, Hunter Mountain, and Wachusett Mountain Ski Area will be raising money or donating a portion of their lift ticket sales over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to Haitian relief efforts.
Gunstock in Gilford, N.H. will be collecting donations at lift ticket windows and guest services desk, to be given to the American Red Cross, Haitian Relief Fund. Gunstock operators ask guests to please consider giving $1, $5, $10, or more when purchasing a lift ticket this weekend to support the worldwide effort to help the people of Haiti who have been devastated by the earthquake.
Hunter Mountain in Hunter, N.Y., expects record attendance this weekend with projections of more than 15,000 visitors and will be offering a variety of ways for those to contribute to the relief effort at hand.
Visiting skiers and snowboarders will be encouraged to donate $1 at any point-of-sale location throughout the resort.
Raffle tickets will also be sold during Après Ski bar promotions sponsored by Dutchess Beverage & Anheuser Busch, who along with Hunter Mountain will be giving away thousands of dollars worth of prizes on Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds from the raffles will be donated directly to the relief effort. Hunter Mountain will also personally match a percentage of all donations collected over the course of the weekend.
The resort will partner with OvrRride, an outdoor adventure tour bus operator that runs weekly service to Hunter Mountain and other eastern resorts from several locations in New Jersey and New York City. OvrRide will run bus trips to Hunter Mountain on Monday, Jan. 18. Hunter Mountain is taking $5 off each OvrRide group member's lift ticket; OvrRide will take an additional $5 off the cost of the ride, totaling a donation of $10 per OvrRride day-tripper. Brian Czarnecki, director of marketing and sales at Hunter, said, "We look to our patrons to assist us in the support of the Help Hunter Help Haiti relief effort during this holiday weekend. With the combined efforts of Hunter Mountain and OvrRide, we believe we can contribute tens of thousands of dollars to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in just three days time."
Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Mass. will donate $5 to the American Red Cross International Responses Fund for every ticket purchased online by skiers and snowboarders over the MLK weekend.
