Helly Hansen brings its Big Mountain Battle to Squaw Valley offering a chance for one team to win a trip to Aspen/Snowmass. The Big Mountain Battle pits teams of two against each other in a contest of hiking and skiing or riding across the mountain.
The event, which starts at 10 a.m., Feb. 21, launches from High Camp. The course, designed by Helly Hansen athlete Chris Davenport, combines two hikes and five designated checkpoints across the mountain. Maps of the course are available at registration, which takes place 8-9:30 a.m. on the day of the race in front of the Squaw Valley Special Tickets Office and the Squaw Valley Sport Shop.
Teams of two skiers, snowboarders, or a combination compete together, with the entry per team costing $75. Each contestant receives a piece of Lifa clothing for entering. Lift tickets are also required for competitors.
Each team will be given a Flaik GPS unit to use to track their route and speed. Bamboo pole gates mark the top and bottom of each hike; participants must go through them in order for the hike or run to count. Teams can vie for extra points after they have completed the course by skiing anywhere.
The fastest team wins an all-expense-paid trip to the final Battle in the Bowls March 29 in Aspen/Snowmass. Other prizes will be awarded to winners for the fastest hike, most vertical, most runs, and most lift rides.
