Pennsylvania's Shawnee Mountain has a line-up of learning programs and special events over the next few weeks including a substantial savings on its beginner learning programs. The resort's Learn a Snow Sport promotion gives newcomers a lesson, rental equipment, and a lift ticket for $59. The offer is good through Jan. 31; the same package can cost as much as $80 later in the season.
Homeschoolers in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania can take advantage of the Homeschool Winter Fun Getaway program Wednesday to Friday, Jan. 27 - 29. Discounts, lodging packages, multi-day lift tickets and networking opportunities are part of the mix.
Take Your Daughter/Son to the Snow Week follows Monday to Friday, Feb 1 - 5. Youths ages 21 and younger get a free youth/student lift ticket if accompanied by a parent purchasing a full-price ticket. A coupon is available on the resort's Web site (see "More Information" below) and this offer cannot be combined with others.
Saturday, Feb. 6 is the Race Against Cancer. Shawnee hosts a recreational NASTAR-format race to raise funds. Proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Winter Carnival Day Feb. 6 coincides with George Washington's birthday. The carnival will feature demos, ice sculpturing, product sampling, outdoor barbeque, entertainment, and an après ski party.
