Many in the ski industry feel that freeride is the wave of the future. It's the aspect of skiing and riding that involves parks and rails, jumps and tabletops, and halfpipes. They're all elements built into the snow, where you can get air, do a trick, and live to tell about it. A couple of Crested Butte entrepreneurs tried to stay one step ahead of the freeride game by starting a store that specifically caters to freeriders. It's called Colorado FreeSkier and you'll find it at the base area of the mountain. Co-owner Jesse Weyl says their target is 10- to 24-year-old males who cruise the mountain. "We identified a huge void in the actual industry, which centered on freestyle skiing. They're growing at the highest rate right now." Also check out a 400-foot long, awesome superpipe at Crested Butte that's ready for you, along with a mini-pipe in the Painter Boy Park, and three terrain parks. They're in great shape. Go have some fun.
