Summit County's largest cat skiing venture is now up and running. Keystone Adventure Tour (KAT) is in operation, with the recent opening of Independence Bowl. The KAT adventure is for advanced skiers and riders who want to experience pristine backcountry conditions in a controlled and guided environment without a high-altitude hike. The heated snowcat tour is in Independence Bowl, which is 300 acres of Keystone's most challenging terrain. You'll find yourself well above the tree line, at an altitude of 12,000 feet.

Those who book by Jan. 24 for anytime during the season receive a 30 percent discount. The early booking price is $157.50. The price after Jan. 24 is $225. Scenic tours are also available, for those who don't want to ski or ride.

The KAT adventure includes a full day in Keystone's back bowls with expert guides. You'll enjoy a catered, gourmet lunch from Alpenglow Stube, in the new Independence Yurt. The buffet includes meats, cheeses, breads, salads, homemade soups, and delicious desserts. You'll get an avalanche beacon, and you'll use powder skis provided by Salomon. The experienced snowcat guides also provide an introductory backcountry information session.

Lodging packages are also offered at Keystone Resort. A studio is $99 a night, a one-bedroom condo is $149, and a two-bedroom condo is $189.
