Val Gardena is running a special 'SuperKids' promotion March 20 to April 11, offering free or half-priced accommodation for children.
The offer is valid at up to 385 selected hotels and guesthouses, identified by an orange and blue 'winter kids' symbol on the resort's Web site.
The deal means children under the age of eight years (born after Nov. 28, 2001) receive free accommodation and older children aged between eight and 12 years (born after Nov. 28, 1997) receive half-priced hotel accommodation.
Offers are valid with a range of board options, including bed and breakfast, half-board, and self-catering. Selected self-catered apartments are offering a 30-percent discount for children under eight years and a 15-percent discount for children between the ages of eight and 12.
The same deal (free or half-price) applies to lift tickets. There are also discounts on ski rentals and ski lessons.
Big events in the valley during the promotional period include the Südtirol Gardenissima at S. Cristina/Selva, the world's longest Giant Slalom ski race (six kilometres, 88 gates, drop of 1000 metres) March 28, and the Val Gardena Spring Trophy - Figure Skating Competition April 7-11.
Selva is the best placed of the three Val Gardena resorts for most skiers, at the head of the valley which leads up to a pass which can take you down to the Fassa Valley on one side and to Alta Badia on the other. You can ski in both directions and continue right round the huge Sella mountain on the famous Sella Ronda circuit without having to take off your skis or go back on yourself. Because Selva is part of the world's largest ski pass system, the Dolomiti Superski, you have computer card access to all the lifts on that route (and hundreds more you can drive to).
