Mount Sunapee has long been known for bringing new skiers and riders into the sport with various learning programs. Paradise Glades on the New Hampshire resort's South Peak fits right in with that tradition.
Sunapee's Bruce McCloy says, "We have created a gladed trail on South Peak between Paradise and Province trails called Paradise Glades. Paradise Glades is on very gentle terrain between. Check out our trail map on-line to see where it is. Even Ridge Glades, which are our easiest glades up on the Main Mountain, can be a little intimidating. Paradise Glades are designed so a novice skier or rider can give glades a try.
"Now on South Peak we have beginner glades and a beginner terrain park on Calypso trail with small features built out of snow. It is really a complete beginner area with 14 trails, 5 lifts, a park and glades," McCloy said.
The new glades are not the only changes to Sunapee's terrain.
"We have widened Upper Cataract trail down into the Sunbowl. We will have a mogul field on skier's left, which will benefit from the direct morning sunlight. Skier's right will remain groomed. Eastside trail has been widened so that we can include a more substantial half pipe. This year's half pipe will be groomed with the Zaugg pipe groomer. The quarter pipe will be on Eastside this year in addition to other elements built out of snow," McCloy said.
