Kirkwood Mountain Resort closes out the season with several world-class events throughout the month of April. Last weekend kicked off the stretch with the North Face Masters of Snowboarding. The Subaru Freeskiing World Championships are set for this weekend, followed by the unique slopestyle/big mountain event, Twisted Sisters. After that will be the Spring Fest 2012, and then the Legendary Kirkwood Banked Slalom. These events are great for both spectators and competitors.
Subaru Freeskiing World Championships – April 4-8
This weekend, Kirkwood draws some of the best big mountain skiers in the world to compete at the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour Championships. The event was postponed back in February, because of the dry start to the season. This is the final stop of the World Tour. Competitors will battle it out for the Freeskiing World Champion titles and cash money on the notorious, cliff-riddle terrain of the Cirque.
Twisted Sisters – April 14-15
The second annual Twisted Sisters Freeride Competition is back. This is a unique mix of big mountain and freeride skiing wrapped into one event. The event features gnarly terrain, as well as tricks skiing off man-made obstacles.
Spring Fest 2012 – April 13-15
Spring Fest is also back for it’s second season with renowned DJs for a series of daytime and nighttime parties. The events will kick off on April 13 with a free party at the 7,800 Bar starting at 9 p.m. The fun will continue through Saturday and Sunday with DJs in the Village Plaza, as well as Saturday night at Red Cliffs at 8 p.m. They will have discounted lift tickets and food and drink specials available.
Legendary Kirkwood Banked Slalom – April 21
Last, but certainly not least is the 18th annual Legendary Kirkwood Banked Slalom. The event is fun for all abilities. There will be categories for ski, snowboard and snowskate, and the course will run through Snowsnake Gully.
The resort plans to continue operations seven days/week through April 22. After that, the mountain will remain open on Friday through Sunday until April 27. The backside (Chairs 2, 3 and 4) will close Sunday, April 8, and The Timber Creek base are (Chairs 7 and 9) will close Sunday, April 15. They will continue to offer limited lessons and rentals in the Village Plaza after that date.
