Mother Nature brought a slow start to the season, but thanks to all the snowfall in March, several resorts around the lake announced plans to stay open later than expected.

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort had plans to stay open until April 15, but now the plan is to close for weekdays and open Friday through Sunday until the end of the month. Those dates are April 20-22 and April 27-29.

Northstar California still plans to close on April 15. People who purchased passes for next season will also be able to enjoy those couple extra weekends for free.

Heavenly will continue to run the gondola, Tamarack Express and Dipper Express on the Nevada side and Gunbarrel for the “Face Rats” on California side. Kirkwood will operate Chair 6, Cornice Express and Chair 10.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows also scheduled to stay open daily through April 29. Alpine will also stay open on weekends (Friday through Sunday) through May 13. Pass-holders for the 2012/2013 season will ride for free at both resorts beginning April 1 through the end of the season.

Diamond Peak Ski Resort will stay open through Easter Sunday and possibly the weekend after if conditions allow, and Sierra-at-Tahoe plans to close mid-April.

All closing dates are weather and conditions permitted. Hopefully the snow continues to fall and gives skiers and snowboarders a late spring similar to last season’s.
