Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia doesn’t believe in a quiet ending to their 50th anniversary season. The resort has planned several events to celebrate its closing weekend April 7-9, 2012, and special end-of-season rates are available for lodging and lift tickets.

Tod Mountain Days, a celebration named after the original ski area at Sun Peaks, combines three days of events, and retro costumes are part of the gig. Expect to find onesies, neon, and straight cut skis on the slopes.

On Sunday, April 8, the Dummy Downhill provides entertainment. Entries are judged for originality, design, appearance, and impact. But the biggest crowd pleasers are those that shatter across the snow upon impact.

On Monday, April 9, closing day for the season, the annual Slush Cup draws costumed skiers and snowboarders to vie for style and crowd appeal. The goal is to reach the other side of the icy pool of water.

Until closing day, Sun Peaks is offering a ski and stay package for $97 per person per night. No minimum nights are required. The rate applies to double occupancy in a standard hotel room or studio. To make reservations, call 800-807-3257. The package can also be booked online.
