Spring skiing may be considered 'low season' but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you choose the right resort, skiing in April can bring some huge advantages. Springtime in the Alps means beautiful sunny days with warmer temperatures and longer lift opening times. The warm, sunny weather makes for ideal apres-ski conditions on the mountain terraces and it's also easier on the wallet - the price of lift passes fall in april and hotels battle for your buck so you'll find plenty of deals on accommodation.
We take a look at three of the UK's best-selling destinations for spring skiing . . .
Located beneath Mont-Blanc and with several glaciers in its ski area, Chamonix has a great snow record and is one of the safer bets for your spring ski holiday. The village is quite low, but the ski lifts climb thousands of metres above, opening up the world's biggest lift served vertical, so even when there isn't snow at resort level, there's invariably plenty up above. Spring is also the ideal time to ski the legendary Vallee Blanche route across the glaciers or to have a go at ski touring. The professional guides of Chamonix Mont-Blanc offer their services for daily and multiple day tours, adapted to all levels of ability. Fortunately the best time to ski Chamonix is also the least crowded -- late March and April. Chamonix is open for skiing until May 8, 2012. Book a spring ski deal in Chamonix
Meribel's sheer size of terrain makes it a winner for spring skiing. Although the resort itself is quite low (1,450m), it has the enviable location of being in the centre of the Three Valleys - the biggest lift-linked ski area in the world - with a whopping 600 kilometres of pistes and high-altitude skiing reaching peaks of 3,200 metres. Morzine is open for skiing until April 27. Book a spring ski deal in Meribel.
Morzine and neighbouring Avoriaz have had an amazing snow season this year. The sun maybe shining brightly now spring has sprung, but skiers will find an excellent snow base from a very white winter. Morzine is linked to Avoriaz via the Super Morzine lift and together they make up part of the mighty Portes du Soleil ski area (650km). Morzine is open for skiing until April 16.
