Are there nooks or crannies at Park City Mountain Resort that you haven’t gotten into lately?

There’s a chance they can be found on Saturday, March 24, when the Helly Hanson Big Mountain Battle comes to the Wasatch Mountain resort above Salt Lake City.

Participants venture out on advanced, intermediate or intermediate 12-and-under courses that are not revealed beforehand. Teams of two begin with a GPS wristband, and a list of checkpoints, lifts and runs they must cover before crossing the finish line at the base. The LeMans-style start has teams rushing to their skis or snowboards, just like Formula One racers at the legendary French race.

Prizes top out at $2,000 of Helly Hansen gear and a spot in the season’s finale at Aspen/Snowmass. At Park City, prizes include a drawing for two season passes for the 2012-2013 winter. All participants get a Helly Hansen base layer and subscription to Powder Magazine.

Online registration runs until midnight Friday, March 23, and costs $90 per team. Registration on the day of the race runs 8:30-10 a.m and costs an extra $10. For online registration, click here.

The race begins at Loren Larsen Park at 10:30 a.m and finishes at 1:30 p.m. An awards ceremony follows at 2:30 p.m.

The Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle is in its fourth year. Stops this season include Keystone, Taos Ski Valley, Fernie, B.C., Squaw Valley, Stevens Pass, Killington and Kicking Horse, B.C.
