Some say that running a ski area is really “snow farming.” Like those in the fields, those in the mountains are never quite sure how to balance production and precipitation.
At Brian Head Resort, the managers have decided that the balance has tipped in their favor, and they’ve announced that their ski and snowboard season will be extended for another week – to Sunday, April 15.
The southernmost resort in Utah had set April 8 as the original closing date, but recent snow dumps have rolled across 11,370-foot Brian Head Peak and blanketed the slopes and trails. To date, the resort reports nearly 200 inches of snowfall.
Management says they hope to capture more of the April spring break crowd that often heads to the mountains around Easter, which falls on April 8 this year. One favorite feature at Brian Head is night skiing. The resort management has a number of deals to entice customers to stick around after the lifts close on Friday and Saturday evenings. For $5 more, a day ticket gets upgraded for night skiing 4 p.m to 9 p.m. on the Pioneer Chair beginner area. A night ticket, rental and tube ticket costs $30, and a ticket, rental, slice of pizza and a drink will run you $25.
