Indianhead Mountain, the big chief of Michigan's UP ski resorts, has some fun events scheduled later this month.  It’s one of the few Midwest areas that have received decent snow this winter thanks to nearby Lake Superior.

Pow Wow in the Pines Music Festival takes place March 16-18 along with the resort’s infamous Bikini Race and fashion show.  The two-day music festival will feature 12 of the region’s best bands.

Two-day lift and lodging packages are available from $175 per person, based on double occupancy and include music passes.  Bands include Sky High, Riverwood Dub, Ipdakar, Useful Jenkins, Gypsy Lumberjacks, I Like You, Joe Scarpellino, Bradey Pearl, Lee Dub Walsh, Recalcintrant, Dead Larry and Roster McCabe.

The Bikini Race, a popular spectator event, takes place at 1 p.m. Saturday on the Chippewa Headwall.  These UP girls are tough, and they will be going all out.  Best time and crowd appeal prizes are handed out.  It’s a modified slalom course set up, and prizes include a season pass and a weekend lift and lodging package.

What more can you ask for?  Hot bands and hot babes on the slopes, it’s a pumped up weekend in Big Snow Country.  March is often one of the best months to ski around the upper Great Lakes.

I was just up there at the end of January and the skiing was superb with all runs fully open.  We even got a little bit of fresh powder over the weekend.  If you haven’t eaten at the resort recently, you might want to give it a try.  They have a new chef and some tasty items on a new menu.
