Let’s say you just can’t take any more of Utah’s powder up to your neck on every single run at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. What do you do?

The Utah resort has added another feature to its world-class skiing and snowboarding mountain: snowmobile trips right off the slopes.

The resort management has hired Lofty Peaks Snowmobiling, of Midway, Utah, to combine a day’s skiing or riding with a two- or three-hour snowmobile ride beyond Snowbird’s boundaries into the 50,000-acre American Fork Canyon of the Wasatch Mountains. Self-driven trips take off from the base of Mineral Basin Express chairlift, located on the backside of Snowbird.

Three types of passes can be had: A day lift ticket plus a two-hour ride for $179; a two-hour ride without a ticket included for $129; or, a three-hour ride without ticket for $159. For those without a day ticket, an additional $8 is charged for the tramway ride to the top of Hidden Peak.

Snowmobile drivers must be at least 16 years old, and passengers must be at least 4 years old. Passengers under 8 years old ride free with paying adult. A snowmobile suit, boots and gloves can be rented for $10. Helmets and transceivers are provided by Lofty Peaks.

Two-hour trips depart three times a day, and three-hour trips two times, both beginning at 9:15 a.m. Guests are asked to go to the Snowbird Activity Center at least 60 minutes before departure time.
