Very few ski resorts in the U.S. get to offer national parks as amenties. But five ski resorts in the Northern Rocky Mountains provide unique ways to take a break from the slopes by visiting neighboring national parks. Five resorts in Montana and Wyoming offer trips to the parks where you can see wildlife, snowmobile, or experience winter beauty on skis.
From the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort, the jagged snow-covered peaks of Glacier National Park spread across the horizon. But skis or snowshoes can take you right in amid the towering mountains. The resort offers tours that include round-trip transportation, a guide, lunch, equipment rental, and park fees. Pick from tour options that include silent ways to travel on snow: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or backcountry skiing.

Big Sky Resort perches off the northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park and serves up a full plate of options for exploring geysers and seeing wildlife. The resort encourages making reservations for Yellowstone activities when booking rooms. Shuttles to West Yellowstone, where most tours depart, are available by reservation, too. Quiet winter tours include cross-country skiing on the Riverside Trail or going on a ranger-guided snowshoe tour in West Yellowstone on the edge of the park. Guided snowmobile tours lead into the interior along the Madison River while snowcoach rides go to see Old Faithful.
Moonlight Basin, located also about 28 miles from West Yellowstone, offers snowcoach tours that depart daily from the resort. The snowcoaches head for Old Faithful and provide a guided way to see bison, moose, elk, steaming hot springs, and geysers.

From Grand Targhee Resort, the Grand Teton rears up skyward, allowing visitors to take in the tallest summit of Grand Teton National Park. But a day off the slopes can be spent touring Yellowstone National Park by snowmobile. Guided snowmobile tours with Teton Valley Adventures go to Old Faithful or into the remote southwest corner of the park to immense Mesa and Cave waterfalls.
Like Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort flanks Grand Teton National Park. On a clear day, visitors can take in the Grand Teton from the top of the tram. Winter wildlife tours into the park are also available from several local companies. The guided tours provide an opportune way to learn about how wildlife adapt to winter. In addition to elk, bison, and moose, the tours often see eagles, bighorn sheep, and trumpeter swans. Guided snowmobile tours are also go into Yellowstone from Jackson Hole.
