The first stop of the Rahlve’s Banzai Tour is scheduled for Feb. 11 and 12 at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.
The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour is a balls-to-the-wall skier and boarder cross event on a big mountain run. This is a four-person race from top to bottom of course that is natural terrain and natural snow conditions. It's an exciting event for both spectators and competitors.
There are four total stops hitting Lake Tahoe ski resorts this winter:
- Kirkwood Mountain Resort - Snow Snake Gully - Feb. 11-12, 2012
- Alpine Meadows - Beaver Bowl Banzai - Feb. 23-24, 2012
- Squaw Valley - KT-22 Banzai - March 3-4, 2012
- Sugar Bowl Ski Resort - Silver Belt Banzai - March 10-11, 2012
There will be single, timed runs on Saturday to qualify for the final on Sunday. Top 32 men and top 16 women move on.
The top two people in each round advance to the next bracket. The top four at the end of the day battle it out for title of Banzai Champ and a chunk of the $15,000 cash prize. The top male skier at each stop has the opportunity to race against Daron Rahlves in the Super Final at the Sugar Bowl stop. The winner of the Super Final walks away with a cool $10,000.
Due to lack of snow this season, the course changed from Eagle Bowl to skiers left off Chair 10 into Snow Snake Gully. Daron Rahlves worked with Kirkwood’s Ski Patrol and Marketing to get the layout of the track and flow ideal.
After the Kirkwood event on Saturday, there will be an Apres Party at Bub's Pub presented by Sierra Nevada Brew Co between 4 p.m and 7 p.m.
