Pine Mountain, near Iron Mountain in Michigan’s remote UP, offers a scenic winter getaway for skiers and riders. Couple that with the resort's lift and lodging packages, and you have a couple of good reasons to make the trip.

Midweek Escape packages start from $80 per night and include a night’s stay and two adult lift tickets. The offer is good Sunday through Thursday. Weekend Escape packages start from $349 and include a two-night stay, lift tickets for two days, and a hot breakfast buffet Saturday and Sunday mornings. Kids 12 and under ski free when accompanied by a paid adult.

A Family Escape package, which starts from $449, includes Friday and Saturday night lodging for a family of four, lift tickets and a hot breakfast buffet both weekend mornings.

Pine Mountain expanded the Bone Yard terrain park last season with additional new features and created Piney's Playground for tots.

Located on a ridge overlooking the city, the ski area has a big 500-foot vertical drop with 27 trails, two terrain parks, three chairlifts and two surface tows. Scenic views from the top of the ridge stretch as far as the eye can see.

The resort is also home to the Pine Mountain Ski Jump, which is known throughout the jumping world as one of the best jumping hills around. Every February the top jumpers from around the world flock to Iron Mountain to test their skills against each other. The U.S. record jump of 140 meters/459 feet was set here and still stands.

Over 20,000 spectators will crowd around the bottom of the jump to watch the competition. Live bands will be playing, and tailgating parties will be taking place in the parking lot. It’s truly a winter spectacle, and the town is overflowing. This winter’s FIS Continental Cup takes place Feb. 11-12.
