The all-new 6Star TTR World Snowboarding Championships arrives in Oslo Feb. 12-19.
The World Snowboarding Championships is a new addition to the TTR World Snowboard Tour this year, and features halfpipe, quarterpipe and slopestyle competitions with a huge prize purse worth $500,000.
The WSC is to take place every four years and is kicking off in Oslo, where a highlight will be the monster quarterpipe event in the legendary Holmenkollen ski jumping arena.
The World Snowboarding Championships (WSC) is the first championships run by snowboarders. It is developed and owned by the Ticket To Ride (TTR) and World Snowboard Federation (WSF).
The 2011/12 season marks the 10th anniversary of the TTR World Tour. New for the TTR Tour this year is the introduction of the World Tour Ranking system that has now broken out to rank riders in individual disciplines: Overall Tour Ranking, Halfpipe Tour Ranking, Slopestyle Tour Ranking and Big Air Tour Ranking.
The 6Star Tour calendar began with the Shaun White Oakley Air & Style Beijing in December and then it was on to Davos, Switzerland for the O'Neill Evolution in January. The next event is the The Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck Feb. 2-4 before the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo Feb. 12-19. From here riders will compete at the Burton European Open in Laax Feb. 25 to March 3, before the Burton US Open in Stratton, where TTR will crown the Overall, Halfpipe and Slopestyle Tour Champions. The combined prize purse of all 6Star events for the 2011/12 season is worth a whopping $1.15-million USD.
