Mad River Mountain, Ohio’s largest ski area, is hosting a couple of signature events over the next three weeks, which promise to be a lot of fun for both competitors and spectators.  They are celebrating a half-century of skiing and riding.

Winterfest, the area’s long-running mid-winter celebration, takes place this coming weekend, Saturday, Jan. 28, featuring live entertainment, ski races, a cash purse Big Air event, and topped off with a fireworks display over the mountain at 10 p.m.  The lifts remain open until 3 a.m.

Winterfest kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday with ski and snowboard races held on Chute, which will reopen to the public immediately following the races.  Live entertainment begins at 5 p.m followed by the Big Air event at 8 p.m. The top rider in both ski and snowboard category walks away with $200.

Stacks of prizes are going to be given away all weekend long. Bud Light has provided a wide variety of branded prizes for this year’s 50th Anniversary celebration, including snowboards, twin-tip skis, outerwear, goggles, and hundreds of t-shirts, hats and other swag. One lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize, a trip for two to Mount Snow.

MRM hosts Pretty in Pink next month, which is their signature for-charity women’s event benefiting breast cancer research.  It takes place Sunday, Feb. 12, and is open to both men and women.  Just wear something pink to show support for the cause.  The cost is $10 to enter.

There will be both a ski and snowboard freestyle competition coupled with a GS race on the race course.  Over $1,000 has been donated to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G James Cancer Hospital each of the last three seasons thanks to the generous support of the MRM community.
