Several Idaho ski resorts are participating in the January Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. First-timers can learn to ski or snowboard with discounted rates on programs through Jan. 31.

At Schweitzer Mountain Resort, beginners can learn to ski or ride for $39. The program includes a beginner hill lift ticket, a two-hour group lesson, and rental gear. Although it is open to adults and kids who are at least 7 years old, the lessons separate adults and children into different groups for learning.

Graduates of Schweitzer’s first day skiing or riding program can go on to take a second and third lesson day for $60 each. Lesson day two and three also include rentals and lift tickets in the rate, but he third day lift ticket is valid for the whole mountain.

Brundage Mountain Resort is also discounting their learn to ski or ride program. The program, which usually costs $129, is reduced to $99 during January. Brundage’s Learn to Ski Guarantee allows participants to take as many beginner lessons (level 1-3) as they want throughout the remainder of the 2011-12 season. One intermediate lesson (level 4-5) is also included.

The package includes two days of Easy Street lift tickets and two days of rental gear for skiing or snowboarding. The program is available to anyone at least 12 years old.

Silver Mountain has discounted its single-day learning program from $70 to $59 during January. The program includes a Prospector lift ticket, lesson, and rental gear. Silver Mountain also offers their three-day beginner program all season long for $129.

Lookout Pass, which just launched the 72nd year of its free Saturday ski school, is offering a January special, too. The first-timer lesson, lift, and rental package, which usually costs $45, can be purchased for $39. Participants need to bring in a printable coupon from one of six local radio stations. The coupons are on the radio station’s web sites.

Pomerelle Mountain is offering a learning program all season long. At $129, the EZ Ski or Ride 1-2-3 provides three lift tickets, three 90-minute group lessons, and three days of rental gear for skiing or snowboarding. The program is for adults or children at least 7 years old.

Pebble Creek Ski Area has opened its beginner area while it awaits more snow to open the rest of the mountain. First timers can get lessons on weekends for $35. The lessons include rentals and a beginner lift ticket.

Due to lack of snow, Bogus Basin has had to postpone their January learning program. Lessons will continue when the mountain opens for skiing and snowboarding.
