A 19-year-old Upton, Mass. man died after falling approximately 30 feet off of a chair lift at Ski Ward on Wednesday night. The teen has been identified as John Street according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

The preliminary investigation shows Street was training with teammates from the Nipmuc Regional High School ski team when he may have suffered a seizure while riding up the hill on a ski lift. Street fell approximately 30 ft. from the lift and landed face down on the icy ground below.

Police and firefighters responded to a 911 call at 6:43 p.m. when Ski Ward medical personnel were treating the boy on the mountain.

Street was transported to the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester where he was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office and Shrewsbury Police are continuing to investigate.

Ski Ward President John LaCroix said that there were no mechanical issues with the lift. He said they did close the lift following Street's fall so that the police could investigate.
