It’s big time skiing and riding for the upper Great Lakes region. There are 18 mountain trails; nearly half of them at least a kilometer or longer. It's one of the few Heartland areas where you feel that delicious thigh burn after a few long, exhilarating runs; no long run-outs here. It is long fall-line runs from top to bottom, and there are glades in between some of the advanced runs.
Beginners have their own dedicated area with a poma lift. They are out of the flow of faster, more advanced skiers and snowboarders.
For cross country skiers there are packages from $89 CA ($87.52 US) per person, based on double occupancy for a two-night stay with cross country skiing at both Stokely Creek and Hiawatha Highlands, which overlooks the city. Stokely Creek offers over 100 kilometers of pristine, groomed trails. It’s often been cited as some of the best cross country skiing found in North America.
This is big snow country. Winter comes early and stays late. The drive up to Searchmont, about 30 kilometers above the city, is along a beautiful mountain road with jaw-dropping views.
