Want to learn to ski or snowboard for free? Who wouldn’t, and there’s no catch.

Spirit Mountain in Duluth is providing free lessons on three Sundays during January. You just have to sign up at least 48 hours in advance of the lessons. It’s arguably one of the best deals around the Great Lakes region for those looking to give it a try this winter.

Free ski and snowboard lessons for beginners -- 13 years and up – are provided on Jan. 8, 22 and 29. The lessons, which normally cost $45, are given at 10 a.m or 3 p.m and include free equipment rental. Reservations need to be made at least 48 hours in advance of lesson day. Call 218-624-8517 or follow this link below to reserve your spot, and don’t delay. Its first come and lessons fill quickly. If, by an unlikely chance, you don’t like sliding on snow, you haven’t lost a thing. Give it a try.

The city owned ski area has opened an Adventure Park, which includes the Timber Twister Alpine Coaster, the Timber Flyer Zip Line that opened this fall, and a new six-lane tubing park open for the first time this winter. The park is open daily.

Spirit Mountain offers a big 700-foot vertical drop and jaw-dropping views of the city, harbor and Lake Superior. With 22 downhill runs, the Midwest's largest terrain park, and 22 km of Nordic ski trails and now the Adventure Park, there is definitely something for everyone.
