Resorts in this article: Silvretta Montafon

OnTheSnow went to talk to Georg Hoblik, the man responsible for the recent sizeable investment in the Silvretta Montafon ski area.

OnTheSnow: More than €30 million has been invested in Silvretta Montafon this year - that's a very decent chunk.

Hoblik: It is important to us to be among the 10 largest ski resorts in Austria and thus play in a new league. Moreover, according to studies for 75 percent of winter visitors, the size of a ski area crucial for the choice of your holiday destination.

OnTheSnow: Can we expect more investment in the next few years?

Hoblik: Yes. In Silvretta Nova the Alptobelbahn will replace two old cars, a chairlift and one surface lift. On Hochjoch we are planning a new railway between Kapell and Kreuzjoch.

OnTheSnow: Will there be new terrain?

Hoblik: We will build a new valley in Gaschurn that will replace some of the blue sections in the existing valley. We've got a very sporty version in mind. We would like to use it for World Cup races.

OnTheSnow: Will the huge investment impact on lift prices?

Hoblik: Only minimally. This year our day tickets for children increased by 1.5 percent and adult tickets increased by 3.5 percent.

OnTheSnow: Thank you for your time!
