The first Family Festival takes place Sunday, Dec. 11 then Jan. 1, Jan 29, and March 11.  The cost is $59 per family member, which includes an all-day lift ticket, ski or snowboard equipment rental, a one-hour beginner lesson for the family and coupons for a meal in the chalet. Click here to access the Family Pass, which is only available online.

The deadline for purchasing the area’s popular $99 College Pass is rapidly approaching. Dec. 14 is the last day that it will be available for college students between the ages of 18 and 27.  All you need for the unlimited season pass is a college photo ID, driver’s license and a college transcript.

A new three-week teaching program puts the student on course for maximum achievement, according to instructors.  Students are grouped by ability and coached once a week for three consecutive weeks.  Lessons, lift tickets and rental equipment are $169, alternatively just the lessons and lift tickets are $129.

When Welch opened for its 48th season the day after Thanksgiving, for the first time four generations of the Nelson family were present for the first run.  Leigh Nelson, founder and owner, was joined by his daughter Paula, grandson Peter, who is part of the resort’s management team, and great granddaughter, five-year-old Camryn.

Welch Village is a busy day-trip area located about an hour from the Twin Cities in the Cannon River valley near Red Wing.
