In the early 1950s, a small bar named the Ski & Spur was the hot spot in Aspen. This was the place for live music, and a few years later it was renamed the Limelight. Today, the Limelight is once again a perfect place to hang out, but a recent transformation has made it quite the place to be.
The Limelight Lodge has been a hub for skiers and vacationers in Aspen for more 60 years. The lodge has recently undergone major renovation work and now has a "casual chic" vibe. This place has it all with spacious rooms (including breakfast) and the bar is the perfect hangout spot in the evenings. Try the “Meltdown” with hot chocolate, Bailey’s, Cinnamon Schnapps, and whipped cream. Or grab the kids for the “S’mores Special” with all the fixings at the firepit on the hotel’s heated outdoor patio, overlooking Aspen Mountain.
Live music is still a staple, from bluegrass to jazz. When we were there this fall, a band was auditioning for the winter season and it added the perfect ambience. You’ll find live music in the lounge almost every afternoon during the ski season from 4-7 p.m, Thursdays through Mondays. Wednesday night is Family Movie Night complete with beanbag chairs and a family friendly flick.

The Limelight has 126 rooms, some with large, furnished terraces. You’ll find pools and hot tubs, a fitness center, wet bar, and more. The hotel also offers a fleet of complimentary snowshoes for guests. You can walk everywhere, once you arrive as the property is downtown on the edge of Wagner Rugby Stadium. The base of the gondola is just four blocks away.
Ask about different packages available which can get you up to two lift tickets per day when you stay three nights. Other multi-day visits get you up to 25 percent off each night. Ask the concierge about Inside Tracks or First Tracks, which gets you first in line on a powder day. Bring the pooch as it is also pet friendly.
