Eldora Mountain Resort outside of Boulder is set to open for the season Friday, Nov. 18.The recent cold front that hit the Front Range mountains has allowed snowmaking operations at Eldora to run in full force.
“This isn’t particularly early for Eldora to open, but the fall storms and upgraded snowmaking equipment have helped to ensure that we’ll have a great opening day,” Spokesperson Tavid Bingham said.
Eight trails will be open with four lifts running. More terrain will open as soon as weather permits. The mountain has a 23-inch base with machine-made snow and packed powder. Bingham said the recent snow has everyone looking forward to a great season. “Especially after these fall storms, the mood is pure excitement at the resort.”
One group that is excited for the opening are the ski team athletes at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Eldora is where they train.
“Coming off their National Championship season, the Buffs were definitely anxious to get back on the slopes! In fact the team has been up for training a couple of times already," Bingham said. "CU opens the racing season at Eldora for the RMISA Alpine Qualifier on January 6.”
The mountain will also offer lessons, rentals, and food and beverages on opening day. Early season lift ticket prices are in effect which are good until Corona Bowl and the back mountain opens.
“We don’t have a definite date for this change, although Corona typically is open in time for the Christmas holiday,” Bingham said.
