Sometimes it's nice to have a choice close to home, and Calabogie and its 760-foot vertical drop offers Ottawa snowsports enthusiasts that choice. It's located less than an hour from Ontario's capital city.
Entering its 41st year, Calabogie Peaks marks its third consecutive year of adding new trails, making improvements to old trails and improving its snowmaking system.
Two new trails were built on some of the Peak’s best terrain offering more skiing and riding options on the Solar side of the mountain, and the Exhibition Trail underneath the Solar chair has been widened. Now a major laneway it provides alternate access into Barrett Chute and High Falls, which will offer more intermediate and advanced terrain.
Slopestyle and Double Mogul terrain parks have been moved to Barrett Chute and Whistlin Paddy. The treeline separating these areas has been removed and the mountain was reshaped to create a new mogul park.
New beginner terrain has been added to smooth the transition from Beginner Bowl to the chairlift, and more tower-mounted fan guns were added to improve snowmaking.
A Capital Cup Snowcross Championship will be taking place Dec. 3-4. Snowmobile racers from across Canada and the U.S. will gather to compete for the second annual Capital Cup.
Calabogie plans to open for the ski and ride season the following weekend on Saturday, Dec. 10.
