Wachusett Mountain Ski Area has teamed up again with the MBTA to carry skiers and riders from North Station in Boston to the commuter rail station in Fitchburg, where they board a shuttle bus for a 20-minute ride to the slopes.

The service runs on weekends through March. The Ski Train fare is $7.75 each way.

The current scheduled weekend Ski Train service offers a train that leaves from North Station at 8:35 a.m. and arrives at the Fitchburg commuter rail station at 10:06 a.m.

Wachusett shuttles customers to the slopes for a day of skiing or riding, then back to the Fitchburg station for departure at 5:35 p.m. arriving at North Station at 7 p.m.

Each train includes a designated ski car that will allow for easy storage of ski or snowboard equipment.

"In this day of high gasoline prices, the ski train provides our Boston-area customers with an incredible option for public transportation to the mountain. We hope the service is especially attractive to all the college students in the Boston area. There hasn't been a transportation option available like this since the era of the gasoline shortages," said Wachusett GM David Crowley.
